In this series, you’ll learn how to set up and secure your server, how to install, back up, upgrade and monitor your node, and how to become a validator on the Metal Blockchain.
Requirements to run a node on the Metal Blockchain
To achieve the best performance and uptime, the node should run on a standalone machine with only the node running, especially if you want to become a network validator as at least 80% uptime is required in order to receive staking rewards.
Metal is an incredibly lightweight protocol, so nodes can run on commodity hardware with the following minimum specifications. Note that as network usage increases, hardware requirements may change.
- CPU: Equivalent of 8 AWS vCPU
- RAM: 16 GiB
- Storage: 250 GiB
- OS: Ubuntu 22.04 or MacOS >= Catalina
- Network: sustained 5Mbps up/down bandwidth
Please note that hardware requirements shall scale with the amount of METAL staked on the node. Nodes with big stakes (100k+ METAL) will need more powerful machines than listed and will use more bandwidth as well.
You can run your own high-performance Virtual Private Server (VPS) with the best price-to-performance ratio for only $19.99/month! Check out our Run a Metal Blockchain VPS node chapter.
